Strengthening Cancer Research Capacity in Africa: Highlights from the NORA/AFCRN Summer School 2025 in Abuja

Strengthening cancer research capacity across Africa, the NORA/AFCRN Summer School 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria, provided a vibrant platform for advancing evidence generation, collaboration, and innovation in oncology research.

The Network for Oncology Research in Sub-Saharan Africa (NORA), in collaboration with the African Cancer Registry Network (AFCRN), successfully hosted the 2025 NORA/AFCRN Summer School in Abuja, Nigeria from October 8–15, 2025, Abuja, Nigeria, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthening cancer prevention and control systems across Africa through high-quality, evidence-based research.

This multinational and multi-site program provided PhD candidates with a valuable opportunity to deepen their scientific expertise and expand their global research networks. It brought together leading experts and trainees from diverse disciplines, fostering meaningful collaboration, knowledge exchange, and interdisciplinary learning.

In addition to the academic sessions, participants enjoyed a lively “Afro Glam Night” and various sports activities, which encouraged social interaction and wellbeing in a relaxed environment.

By engaging with international peers and experienced mentors, participants gained fresh perspectives, built lasting professional partnerships, and strengthened their capacity to contribute to globally relevant oncology research.
